LAWMAKER PUSHES FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF DEFENSE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM
BULACAN 1st District Rep. Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado filed a measure that will establish the Philippine Defense University System.
House Bill 6086 mandates the State to provide a continuing advanced education in the field of defense and security to members of the military service as well as key officers in the government service and private sector.
Under the measure, an educational institution known as the Philippine Defense University System shall be established to be located at Camp General Alejo Santos in Malolos, Bulacan.
It will serve as the overall administrative and operational educational institution on defense and security.
Sy-Alvarado said that despite the challenging national security issues, the country’s national structure program on defense and security education is not given priority.
He stressed the need to create an enabling law that will promote the development of the defense and security education, as well as the research and training offered by various defense and security academic institutions.
“This bill intends to create a defense and security education that is responsive to the present predicaments related to national defense and security,” the lawmaker said in his explanatory note.
Once the bill is enacted into law, the operational and administrative supervision of the Philippine Military Academy shall be transferred to the PDUS.
