BUKIDNON Rep.  Manuel Antonio Zubiri filed a measure that will convert a national high school annex into an independent high school.

House BIll 10543 seeks to separate the Bukidnon National High School of Home Industries-San Miguel Annex in the municipality of Maramag from its mother school and convert it into an independent national high school.

The lawmaker explained that the school annex already exceeded its capacity with 1,215 students and only 30 teachers.

“It has become necessary to establish a new high school in the said barangay and to put into practice the establishment and maintenance of a system of free public education in the elementary and high school levels for the children living there,” Zubiri added.

Zubiri said the free elementary and secondary education the government provides does not reach everyone.

“More concrete steps must be taken so that this constitutionally mandated service will reach more children,” Zubiri said
