LAWMAKER BATS FOR HEALTH MAINTENANCE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS

/ 30 July 2022

MUNTINLUPA City Rep. Jaime Fresnedi filed a measure providing for a health maintenance organization for public school teachers.

House Bill 61 or the proposed Health Maintenance Organization for Public School Teachers Act seeks to recognize the importance of teachers in public schools.

Under the measure, the Department of Education will procure a contract with a Health Maintenance Organization that will provide healthcare services to employees.

“Our teachers play a vital role in facilitating the learning and development of students. As the primary contributors to molding the minds of our learners, they are expected to perform with the highest degree of excellence and effectiveness,” Fresnedi said in his explanatory note.

“While we already have the Universsal Healthcare Law, we still hear and read of teachers lamenting how inadequate their meagre incomes are to ensure that they are fit and healthy to perform the harrowing duties and responsibilities of their chosen profession. We can do more for our teachers,” he added.

Once enacted into law, the amount necessary for the health maintenance of teachers shall be included in the General Appropriations Act.
