ANTIQUE Rep. Antonio Legarda Jr. filed a measure that seeks the integration and mainstreaming of cultural education programs and activities in the national education program.

House Bill 3416 or the proposed Cultural Education Program Act aims to institutionalize a cultural education program to preserve our cultural heritage.

The lawmaker lamented that many cultural practices and traditions are on the brink of extinction.

The program will include developing and enhancing special programs for the arts; integrating Schools of Living Traditions in the education system and supporting K to 12 programs of the Department of Education especially on heritage culture and the arts.

Under the bill, students and teachers will be trained under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Philippine Cultural Education Program and cultural enrichment activities will be implemented.
