THE DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology will put up community-based internet connection for the benefit of students.

“Kami po sa DoST ang aming tinutugunan na possibilities ay ‘yung may kinalaman sa pagtatayo ng community based celluar networks,” Secretary ‘Boy’ Dela Peña said in a press briefing.

However, Dela Peña also noted that it was a way similar to the big telco’s frequencies and would use different channels into the remote areas.

DoST is likewise planning to put up towers in which local government units can have access on it.

“Magtatayo rin po tayo ng parang sariling tower. Hindi nga lang kasing mahal nung mga tower ng ating malalaking telco, pero sa pamamagitan nito ay puwede nating mai-connect ‘yung ating mga mamamayan doon sa lugar na iyon, puwede itong i-operate ng LGU,” he added.

DoST has also coordinated with PTV4 to air some lessons or educational shows especially those from far-flung areas in connection with the online learning for school year 2020-2021.

Other government departments have also been doing their part as assigned to them by President Duterte during his fifth State of the Nation Address.
