DEPED URGED TO IMPLEMENT REINTEGRATION PROGRAM FOR YOUTH IN SOCORRO CULT

/ 8 November 2023

SENATOR RISA Hontiveros on Tuesday urged the Department of Education to implement their reintegration program for the youth in Sitio Kapihan, Socorro, Surigao del Norte.

At the same time, the senator asked the authorities to ensure that the current and former members of the Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. will not be neglected even as she unearths another shocking truth about the death of more than 200 babies in Sitio Kapihan.

During the hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, Hontiveros stressed that the culprits must face the law.

“It is clear that this issue touches on so many things that we hold dear as a society, how we take care of our children, how we view institutions such as marriage and religion, and how we treat the poorest among us,” she said.

The Senate security group turned over alleged Socorro cult leader Jey Rence Quilario alias Senyor Agila, SBSI vice president Mamerto Galanida, group leaders Karen Sanico Jr. and Janeth Ajoc, and other SBSI members to the police and agents of the National Bureau of Investigation.

This was after a warrant of arrest was issued against them by a regional trial court in Dapa, Surigao del Norte for violation of Republic Act No. 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 wherein no bail was recommended.

Prior to the serving of the arrest warrant, Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa had just concluded the inquiry on the alleged systematic rape, sexual abuse, trafficking, forced labor, and child marriage reportedly perpetrated by SBSI members.
