THE DEPARTMENT of Education on Wednesday said that it has not monitored any untoward incident as face-to-face classes resumed after more than two weeks of holiday break.

“No untoward incidents have been reported so far in relation to the resumption of classes,” DepEd Spokesman Michael Poa said in a Viber message to reporters.

“However, classes were suspended by the LGUs of certain areas found in Regions 5, 6, 8, and MIMAROPA due to inclement weather,” he added.

As of January 3, eight schools were being used as evacuation centers, based on the report of the regional directors in Caraga and Region 10.

Data from the department showed that 41 schools needed around P389.50 million for their repair and reconstruction after sustaining infrastructure damage due to the rains and floods spawned by the shear line and low pressure area.

These schools were in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.
