DEPED CHIEF SEES NO REASON TO HAVE CONFIDENTIAL FUND FOR 2025
EDUCATION Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara is not interested in requesting for confidential and intelligence funds for the year 2025.
During the House Committee on Appropriations budget briefing, Kabataan Party-List Rep. Raoul Manuel asked the secretary if he has any plan to ask for CIF.
Angara said he is not interested in CIF because apart from the fact that it has become controversial, he sees no reason to use it.
He explained that they can put any program or project that will require a budget as a line item instead of requesting for CIF.
Meanwhile, Education Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla admitted that they have no idea on how former Education Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte spent her CIF for 2023 amounting to P150 million.
Sevilla explained that they used the Joint Circular on cash advances as guide in disbursing CIF.
She said they released P112.5 million CIF for the three quarters of the year while no amount was issued in the fourth quarter of 2023 because Duterte didn’t request for it.
Sevilla explained that they have no idea on how the former secretary spent the fund since it is included in the process of their liquidation.
