ACT BLASTS BRIONES
THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers slammed former Education Secretary Leonor Briones for highlighting the agency’s accomplishments for the last six years during the turnover of leadership to Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday.
Raymond Basilio, the group’s secretary general, said Briones and the entire DepEd team “are not ashamed or embarrassed to turn over an institution that persevered in spite of the pandemic.”
“The fact is, we are the only country in the entire world that is yet to fully reopen our face-to-face classes. The implementation of the problematic distance/remote education program over the past two years resulted in to massive learning loss,” Basilio said.
The group said that Briones totally abandoned her responsibility of providing quality and accessible education to all Filipino learners.
“She [Briones] should thank our teachers for taking the extra mile for looking for ways to deliver learning to learners as the DepEd failed to deliver sufficient and quality learning materials and providing remote learning resources to teachers and learners such internet allowance for teachers and laptop computers to teachers and subsidy for poor learners,” Basilio said.
The group blamed Briones and former President Rodrigo Duterte for the massive learning loss of Filipino learners.
“For the past two years, our classrooms remain dilapidated, comfort rooms and hand washing facilities are still insufficient, we still do not have health workers in our schools and many other needs remains unaddressed,” Basilio said.
