30% PROVISIONS OF MAGNA CARTA FOR TEACHERS NOT PROPERLY IMPLEMENTED — LAWMAKER
SENATE Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture chairman Sherwin Gatchalian on Saturday admitted almost 30 percent of the provisions in the 50-plus year old Magna Carta for Teachers were not implemented well in the past.
Gatchalian said this is one of the consensus finding by the committee that conducted an inquiry on the bills amending the Magna Carta for Teachers.
“Ako aminado ako na marami dito ang hindi na-implement. Halos sa aming bilang almost 30 percent ng provisions ang hindi na-implement. Marami rin dito kailangan na i-update tulad ng insurance policies, tulad ng workload ng ating mga teachers,” Gatchalian said.
The senator plans to report the findings in the remaining sessions of the 18th Congress.
“Hindi na maaprub iyan (committee report). Gusto ko lang siyang ma-formalize sakaling mapirmahan ang committee report, ma-report out at least meron tayong formal committee report na puwedeng gamitin sa 19th Congress,” the senator explained.
Gatchalian, meanwhile, vowed to pursue bills amending the Magna Carta for Teachers to ensure quality education in the country.
