UST INKS PARTNERSHIP WITH CLIMATE CHANGE COMMISSION
TO BOOST its efforts for climate mitigation and adaptation, the University of Santo Tomas partnered with the Climate Change Commission.
A cooperation agreement was signed by key officials of UST and CCC earlier this week.
The agreement fosters stronger collaboration between the UST and the national government by utilizing the school’s research centers and innovation hubs.
It also encourages local resilience efforts by involving UST community development and social sciences initiatives.
It will similarly focus on joint research, policy development, and educational activities to advance environmental preservation, beginning with events like the November 2023 Climate Change Week.
Citing Pope Francis’ Laudato Sí encyclical, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Fr. Jannel Abogado was delighted with the collaboration saying it was aligned with UST’s climate-focused efforts.
Abogado reaffirmed the university’s commitment “to fighting climate change and helping the government by lending the University’s academic and research expertise.”
Meanwhile, CCC Secretary Robert E.A. Borje underscored the importance of sustainability and climate justice and equity.
He expressed enthusiasm at partnering with UST for its “vibrant research activities” that can open avenues for further collaboration.
