UP MANILA STUDENTS SEEK LENIENCY AMID TROPICAL STORM
STUDENT leaders of the University of the Philippines Manila sent a letter to the office of the chancellor on Wednesday, requesting for the extension of requirement deadlines because of Tropical Storm Odette.
The University Student Council of UPM and UP Manila League of College Student Councils pleaded that the deadline of the submission of requirements be moved to the end of the semester.
“Along with the Covid19 pandemic and the demands of distance learning, Severe Tropical Storm Odette, which poses a serious threat to the UP Manila Community, has undoubtedly created a more difficult situation, as well as physical and mental distress,” they said.
The groups also requested the removal of deductions and penalties for late submissions, and the provision of student assistances including rescue channels and emergency funds.
“At the time when our lives are in grave danger due to the Covid19 pandemic and typhoons, it is critical that we prioritize our health and recognize that the aforementioned are the only options to keep our constituents safe,” they added.
The tropical storm is expected to intensify and make landfall twice, according to the weather bureau.
