UNIVERSITY OF CEBU TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO COMPUTERS, INTERNET
THE UNIVERSITY of Cebu has announced that it will provide access to computers and internet around the province for the incoming school year.
UC Chancellor Candice Gotianuy said that, “We understand that the majority of our students and teachers have limited access to devices and internet providers. As such, we have thought of ways to make it easier and more affordable for you.”
UC has partnered with Fr. Franciso Silva and has allowed the installation of computers inside the premises of Cebu Electric Cooperatives in Carcar, Toledo City, and Bogo.
UC has also been considering the use of Internet cafes as digital classrooms and workplaces for students and teachers as the education sector adapts to the new mode of learning.
“UC is looking for Internet cafes with at least 20 computers, good working internet, safe environment, computers that can accept USB (or willing to configure), willing to open from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m., and located in Carcar, Toledo, Bogo and other cities and towns with a large population including Mactan and nearby islands and provinces,” the Chancellor said.
The Chancellor reiterated that it will comply with the health guidelines mandated by the IATF and the local government units.
“We are grateful to Toledo Mayor Marjorie Peralas for the warm welcome she gave us as we wait for the other mayors. We understand that times are very hard. By keeping Internet cafes, carinderias, restaurants and boarding lodges afloat, we hope to help jumpstart local economies and create jobs,” she added.
The guidelines for students who wish to use the computers, facilities and internet connectivity in all UC campuses will be released in the upcoming days.
Classes in all campuses of University of Cebu will open on September 1, 2020.
