UNIVERSITY OF CEBU CONDUCTS INVESTIGATION ON WEBMASTERS’ FIGHT-MARRED GAME
THE UNIVERSITY of Cebu is investigating a fighting incident involving its men’s basketball team in a game held last week.
UC said a postgame brawl transpired after one of its players left with a facial injury following a hard foul reportedly ordered by the head coach of the opposing team.
A verbal altercation then began after the game, eventually leading to a fight.
“The violence that marred the competition deserves the highest form of condemnation. It is diametrically opposed to the school’s commitment to fostering ethical and social responsibility, emotional maturity, discipline, camaraderie, and collaboration through basketball as a team sport,” the UC Webmasters basketball team said.
“While the desire for tangible accomplishment is commendable, team standings accomplishment is commendable, team standings and winning percentages are molehills compared to the mountain of good values and virtues that the school wishes to inoculate,” the team added.
UC also appealed to the coaches to present themselves professionally and promote fair play at all times.
