UNIVERSITY OF BAGUIO STUDENTS SEEK TRANSPARENCY ON TUITION
STUDENT groups of the University of Baguio has called the attention of the school’s administration, questioning the sudden changes on tuition and other fees for the second semester of Academic Year 2020-2021.
In a letter addressed to Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan, UB Vice President for Academic Affairs, the UB Supreme Student Council complained that they were not notified beforehand about the fees.
“On behalf of the students of the UB, the SSC is writing to your good office with regard to our concerns about the sudden increase in the tuition fee without prior notice,” the student body said.
“It has come to our attention that such fees sparked numerous questions and uncertainties amongst the student community. In addition, we have grave concerns that such fees, specifically the E-Learning fee, lack outright transparency,” it added.
UB-SSC has also urged the school officials to release a detailed breakdown and description of fees, stressing that the university must exercise accountability and transparency at all times.
“As we start the second semester, it is critical that we take strong action on the concerns of the students. With such, the council would like to request for the full breakdown and description of the fees the students must pay on top of their tuition fees”, UB-SSC said.
“Lastly we would also like to request for clarification regarding the sudden addition of the E-Learning fee without prior notice, the week after enrollment,” it added.
