/ 14 September 2020

OFFICIALS and students of the National University are trying to resolve the complaint of a student who lost internet connection during an online class.

The National University Student Government said that it was “in communication with NU-Manila Student Affairs Office to provide appropriate action regarding the case.”

The group said the issue has been raised with Vice President for Academic Operations Rosauro Manuel and the head of the Director of Student Affairs Office, Marc Rey D. Galido.

Civil Engineering student Nikko Mendez, on a post that went viral on Facebook on Friday, September 11, expressed his dismay on the action of his professor in one of his online classes.

Mendez said that he had a problem with his internet connection during a class activity and got a failing grade.

“Nagloloko internet connection due to heavy rain sa amin tapos during quiz nabigla [ako] talaga because I got zero,” he said.

He added that he told the professor about his problem but he got hostile replies.

The Commission on Higher Education urged universities and colleges to implement flexible learning depending on the resources available for students and teachers.

Some student groups have called for an academic freeze, saying many students are unprepared for online learning.
