A GRADUATE student from the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology won the Gordon Preston Prize at the 6th Australia Algebra Conference held in Sunshine Coast University, Queensland, Australia.

Alfilgen Sebandal is a scholar of the Department of Science and Technology for her Ph.D. in Mathematics.

She is currently in Sydney, Australia for her research at the Western Sydney University under the supervision of Professor Jocelyn Vilela of MSU-IIT and Professor Roozbeh Hazrat of WSU.

During the conference, she presented her talk titled “A Confirmation of the Finite Graded Classification Conjecture of Leavitt Path Algebras.”

“[Sebandal] tackled evidences and an affirmation in the finite-dimensional case of a long-time conjecture involving Leavitt path algebras and talented monoids which was formulated by Hazrat in 2011,” MSU-IIT said.

“This is a compilation of joint works with Vilela, Hazrat, and Wolfgang Bock of Technische Universitat Kaiserslatern, Germany,” it added.

According to the university, Sebandal also spent a month in Europe where she visited Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Universidad de Málaga in Malaga, Spain, Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium and Université de Picardie Jules Verne in Amiens, France to deliver a series of talks and to closely collaborate with experts in their field.
