MMSU ACCOUNTANCY STUDENTS SHINE IN 2025 REGIONAL CONVENTION

ACCOUNTANCY students from Mariano Marcos State University earned multiple awards at the 2025 Regional Midyear Convention of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) – Region 1 and the Cordillera Administrative Region held in Baguio City.

The JPIA-MMSU Chapter was recognized as the first overall runner-up in the search for the Most Outstanding JPIA Local Chapter and earned first runner-up titles in both the academics and non-academics categories.

MMSU delegates dominated individual competitions, with champions including Alwin Ray Suniga in CAT CUP 3–Management Advisory Services, Camille Ann Raña in CAT CUP 5–Auditing, Johari Bacolod in the Search for Best Accounting Wizard, and Dan Gideon Cariaga in JPIAN CUP.

Other notable individual wins included John Manuel Sanchez as the extemporaneous speaking champion and recipient of the Most Outstanding JPIAN award, and Novie Grae Balete in the Quizidents contest.

Christian Jaylord Tomas and Nicole Calamaro were crowned Mr. and Ms. Ambassador of Goodwill 2025, while Paul Japhet Ballungay won the Rainbow Microphone title.

In group competitions, MMSU students excelled, with the debate team of John Manuel Sanchez, Jesmark Duque, and Hanadi Bautista emerging as champions, and the dance crew led by Jesmark Duque securing the Best Dance Crew award. Sanchez was further recognized as Best Speaker and Best Debater in the debate cup.

Other commendable achievements included second place finishes in extemporaneous speaking by May Carolyn Basilio, essay writing by Clarisse Danielle Romualdo, and mixed-doubles badminton by Derrick Rykiell Labso and Charel Pastor.

MMSU’s parody-making team and Mindblitz team also secured podium finishes, alongside the Mobile Legends esports team.

Meanwhile, the Tax Case Study team won Best Paper and placed first runner-up overall, further showcasing the university’s academic excellence.

The winners will represent Region 1 and CAR at the National Midyear Convention in Bacolod City later this year.

Themed “Glacial Oasis: Drift in the Snow’s Embrace, Discover Winter’s Mystique,” the 23rd RMYC served as a platform for student leaders and aspiring accountants to network, enhance their skills, and gain insights from industry professionals.
