FILIPINO SCIENTIST TO HELP TWO UNIVERSITIES IN NANOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH
A FILIPINO scientist will help the University of Mindanao and University of St. La Salle enhance the research capabilities of faculty and students in their respective Chemical Engineering departments.
Dr. Khino J. Parohinog, a nanotechnology expert, came back to the country through the Department of Science and Technology’s Balik Scientist Program.
Parohinog earned his MS-PhD in Energy Science and Technology at Myongji University in South Korea.
“His research interest lies in the development of different types of nano-adsorbents for targeted critical and precious metal recovery,” DOST said.
“His research was focused on the surface functionalization of carbon-based nanomaterials as a technique for the fabrication of the adsorbents, wherein crown ethers were immobilized on magnetic graphene oxide to produce high-capacity, highly selective adsorbents,” it added.
Parohinog is expected to provide technical assistance in formulating research plans for the synthesis of nano-adsorbent materials for contaminant removal and resource recovery.
In a courtesy visit to DOST, Parohinog expressed his intention to remain in the Philippines and further help Filipino researchers harness skills and capabilities on nanotechnology initiatives.
