FEU LAUNCHES SUSTAINABLE AND INNOVATION PROGRAM ON TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY

/ 1 November 2023

TO FOSTER innovation and sustainability, the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management of the Far Eastern University launched its Sustainable and Innovation Program Advancement for Tourism and Hospitality.

Led by ITHM Dean Dr. Harold Bueno and Associate Dean John Lester Tuason, SIPATH programs integrate various initiatives to reinforce the commitment to the 17 SDGs in its academic framework.

“Each course offered in the curriculum is strategically designed to address specific SDGs, alongside the rigorous implementation of the Code of Ethics in Tourism,” FEU said.

“It is aimed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become future leaders in the tourism and hospitality industry who are committed to sustainable development,” it added.

Through the program, students will engage in hands-on projects and experiential learning activities that promote sustainable practices in the industry.

They are encouraged to think critically and creatively about the environmental, social, and economic impacts of their actions and decisions “by creating awareness and exerting conscious effort in achieving sustainable practices,” the school said.

Students will also receive comprehensive training and education in sustainable culinary practices and earn certificates in the professional elective course HOM1105: Sustainable Hospitality.

SIPATH comprises seven key components, including training trainers, knowledge transfer, curriculum integration, and a zero-waste model with the ITHM Sustainable Food Waste Management program in collaboration with Greenspace and WWF.
