FAME LAUNCHES NEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
THE FEDERATION of Ateneo Management Engineers recently launched a new scholarship for BS ME majors in honor of Professor Emeritus Dr. Mari-Jo P. Ruiz.
The Ateneo de Manila University said that the FAME Scholarship Endowment aims to help scholars finish their education.
The scholarship was established by pooling various FAME scholarship funds donated by BS Management Engineering alumni.
“Dr. Mari-Jo joined the Ateneo community in 1965 and completed her doctoral degree in Mathematics from the same institution in 1981,” the university said.
“In her many years in the Ateneo, she had worn many hats as a professor, the Department Chair of Mathematics and Management Engineering, the Dean of School of Arts and Sciences, and a Trustee of the university for three terms,” it added.
“She has since become an integral part of the institution until her retirement in 2009, and even beyond it as she was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus by the Ateneo de Manila University. Today, Dr. Mari-Jo continues her vocation of teaching as an active member of the Mathematics and Quantitative Methods & Information Technology Departments,” it said.
Since its inception, the scholarship grant has established 13 full endowment funds and 6 Scholarship Awards with a total principal donation of P63 million from some 300 Management Engineering graduates.
To date, 57 scholars supported by the program have graduated.
“FAME, under the leadership of Dr. Ruiz and in support of the Ateneo’s 500@150 Sesquicentennial Scholarship Campaign in 2009, initiated their own ME@40 Scholarship Campaign to raise funds to support BS ME Scholars when they celebrated their 40th year in 2009,” the school said.
