CASES OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT @ PNU WERE TRACED TO CERTAIN PROFESSORS – GABRIELA YOUTH

/ 8 October 2020

THE PHILIPPINE Normal University University Student Council urged students who were victims of sexual harassment to come forward and file formal complaints.

This came after reports of sexual harassment cases within the university were shared on social media.

“We would like to encourage students who have experienced sexual harassment online involving anyone inside or outside of the Philippine Normal University-Manila to communicate with us so that we may gather ample evidence to create a concrete report that will be raised to the higher-ups,” the council said on Facebook.

According to Gabriela Youth PNU, the sexual harassment cases were traced to some professors.

“Partikular dito ang malalaswang tingin at mensahe o paanyaya, at panghihimasok sa personal na espasyo ng isang indibidwal. Higit na nakababahala ay ang katotohanang ito ay nagmumula sa mismong kapwa mag-aaral o ‘di kaya naman ay mga propesor ng pamantasan,” it said on Facebook.

The group said that the victims disclosed that the harassment has been repeated even after transitioning to distance learning.

The student council told students that “every PNUan has the right to a safe environment away from sexual harassers and offenders.”

It said victims can reach out to Cark Josef Francisco, Jullie Anne Rafael, and Alfredo Magat or any other USC member to relay their concerns.

The POST reached out to the PNU administration for a comment but it said that they have yet to receive news regarding the issue. It added that it  will consult with its concerned office to look into the controversy.
