ADAMSON, FEU STUDENT GROUPS BACK SHOWBIZ CELEBRITIES’ SUPPORT FOR GABRIELA

/ 26 October 2020

THE STUDENT governments of Adamson University and Far Eastern University have voiced out their support for Angel Locsin, Catriona Gray and Liza Soberano who were recently warned against supporting alleged communist front organizations..

The Adamson University Student Government condemned the alleged authoritarian actions of the government in its attempt to stop Filipinos from voicing their concerns.

“Our country is being put under authoritarian measures. The current administration has proven how far it is willing to go to suppress critical media and influential figures’ voices,” the AUSG said.

The group added that such actions will not end the fight against violence and oppression.

“Using the legislative power to silence the nation only shows how threatened this government is with the strength and principles of the people,” it said.

The group urged government officials “to live up to your principles and duties as public servants and respect the stand of the people instead of identifying them as threats.”

Meanwhile, the FEU Student Council said it stands with Soberano, Gray, and Locsin for speaking up for women and children.

“We applaud you for expressing your stand on these pertinent issues and inspiring other women to be brave enough to stand up against oppressors,” it said.

The group encouraged women to help build the society by rising against all types of violence and injustices.

“We have to build a society where women will never have to be terrified to rise up against all types of violence. Along with this, we urge the authorities to respect the stands of these people and stop identifying them as threats to the country or the government. Stop red-tagging,” the FEU student council said.

Soberano was earlier warned by Southern Luzon Command chief Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr. for joining an activity of Gabriela, suspected by the military to be a front of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
