ATENEO LAW SCHOOL NAMES MAITA CHAN-GONZAGA AS NEW DEAN
ATENEO de Manila University has appointed a new dean for its law school, who will serve a three-year term from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2029, the institution announced.
Atty. Ma. Ngina Teresa “Maita” V. Chan-Gonzaga has been named the new Dean of the Ateneo Law School following the recommendation of the search committee and approval of the university’s Board of Trustees.
“Upon the recommendation of the Search Committee for the Dean of the Ateneo Law School and with the approval of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Atty. Ma. Ngina Teresa ‘Maita’ V. Chan-Gonzaga as Dean of the Ateneo Law School for an initial three-year term, from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029,” the university said in a statement.
Chan-Gonzaga currently serves as Acting Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Ateneo Law School. She has been a member of the faculty since 2003 and is now a Professor of Law and a bar reviewer.
Over the years, she has held key academic and professional roles, including chairing the Civil Law Department and serving on the Academic Council of the Philippine Judicial Academy. She was also a Civil Law Bar examiner in the 2018 and 2023 National Bar Examinations.
From 2010 to 2015, she served as Commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government.
Chan-Gonzaga earned her Magister Juris degree from the University of Oxford (The Queen’s College) in 2008. She completed her Juris Doctor at Ateneo de Manila University School of Law in 2002, graduating as valedictorian and receiving the St. Thomas More Award for Most Distinguished Graduate.
