HOUSE SEEKS SENATE APPROVAL TO INTEGRATE WORLD WAR II PHILIPPINE HISTORY INTO HIGHER EDUCATION CURRICULUM

/ 24 March 2026

THE HOUSE of Representatives has submitted for Senate concurrence a measure requiring a comprehensive study of Philippine history during World War II to be integrated into the higher education curriculum.

House Bill 7808, or the proposed Study of Philippine History During World War II Act, has been referred to the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education.

Under the measure, the study shall account for at least 50 percent of the mandatory Philippine History subject in general education courses across all higher education institutions (HEIs).

The bill also encourages HEIs to maintain sufficient books, resources, and reference materials on World War II as it unfolded in the Philippines, accessible in libraries and other learning centers.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will include the coverage and quality of the study in its comprehensive curriculum review. The agency is also tasked, in collaboration with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office–Department of National Defense, to develop a program for the effective implementation of the measure.
