SENATE OKAYS BILL PROMOTING FLEXIBLE TEACHING METHODS
A MEASURE seeking to give the Department of Education greater flexibility in teaching approaches is now closer to becoming law after the Senate approved it on third and final reading.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian welcomed the passage of Senate Bill No. 1899, saying the proposal would allow the education department to adopt more effective pedagogical methods in implementing the country’s basic education curriculum.
According to Gatchalian, the measure aims to help both students and teachers improve learning outcomes by moving away from a “one-size-fits-all” approach in the classroom.
“The experiences of our teachers and learners are clear: we can no longer continue with a one-size-fits-all approach to learning,” the senator said.
Gatchalian stressed that giving the Department of Education the flexibility to adjust teaching strategies could help address persistent challenges in the education sector.
He added that improving the effectiveness of teaching methods is key to resolving what he described as an ongoing crisis in education.
“If we want to end the crisis in education, we must ensure that the methods our teachers use are effective,” he said.
Once enacted, the proposed measure would allow educators under the Department of Education to tailor teaching strategies based on the needs and learning levels of their students while implementing the national curriculum.
