SENATOR CONDEMNS DEATH OF STUDENT DUE TO HAZING
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Tuesday strongly denounced the death of a 19-year-old student in an alleged hazing incident in Cavite City, calling on authorities to swiftly bring those responsible to justice.
“I strongly condemn the alleged hazing incident in Cavite City that claimed the life of a 19-year-old student. It is infuriating that, despite the clear prohibition under the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, such acts of violence continue. Many have not learned from history,” Gatchalian said in a statement dated March 4.
The Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, formally known as Republic Act No. 11053, imposes stricter regulations and heavier penalties on fraternities, sororities, and other organizations involved in hazing and initiation rites.
Gatchalian urged law enforcement agencies to act without delay.
“I urge law enforcement authorities to act swiftly—find those responsible, hold them accountable, and file charges against everyone involved. They must face the full force of the law,” he said.
The senator also extended his condolences to the victim’s family and expressed solidarity with their call for justice.
“I sympathize with the bereaved family and stand with them in their demand for justice,” he added.
Authorities have yet to release full details of the incident as investigations continue.
