SENATOR RENEWS PUSH TO ENCOURAGE READING AMONG YOUTH

/ 3 December 2025

SENATOR Loren Legarda has renewed her advocacy to promote reading among the youth, particularly during their formative years.

Legarda emphasized that reading, especially for children aged 6 to 12, can help develop cognitive skills and strengthen critical thinking.

“We believe that reading should be encouraged, especially when the minds of the youth are still developing. The ability to read and comprehend is a crucial skill that will serve them for life,” Legarda said.

“Reading also enriches us as human beings; it adds layers of emotion, depth, and empathy that can only come from engaging the mind,” she added.

She stressed that strong reading and comprehension skills are essential for nurturing a generation of Filipinos who are discerning, knowledgeable, and responsible for the country’s development.

“As a knowledgeable nation, the Philippines can flourish on a global scale and help lift many out of poverty,” Legarda said.

“This foundation will also guide policies that lead the country toward a sustainable and thriving economy.”

Legarda also advocated for the passage of key education legislation, including the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the Integrated History Act of 2016, and the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, among others.
