A LADY student gained traction on social media owing to her unique name that carried the first five letters and vowels of the English alphabet.

Meet Abcde Aeiou S. Bayotas, a freshman who recently enrolled at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines taking up Railway Engineering Technology.

‘Eyu’ as she is fondly called, shared with The POST the story why she carried such a rare name.

He father Lou Anthony L Galang, according to Eyu, loved to play video games in his younger days and would usually name his video characters as abcde aeiou.

And so when she was born, her parents decided why not name her Abcde Aeiou.

“Mahilig daw po maglaro sa arcade si papa, tapos everytime nailalagay ‘yung player’s name, ‘abcde aeiou’ lang ang inilalagay niya.

“Tapos, naisipan daw po nila mama na pag-isipan na lang kung paano bibigkasin. Tsaka gusto rin po kasi nila na kakaiba ‘yung pangalan ko kaya ayun na lang daw po,” Eyu explained.

But it took Eyu a while before she accepted her name, which usually, would be the root of her classmates bullying her while growing up.

“Noong kinder at elementary ako, (siguro hanggang grade 3 ‘yon) nabu-bully ako sa name ko, Iyakin kasi ako nung mga time na ‘yon kaya medyo nagtatampo ako sa pangalan ko kasi inaasar ako lagi,” she recalled.

“Sinabihan ko pa nga si mama noon na palitan na lang ‘yung pangalan ko eh. Pero ngayon proud naman na ‘ko diyan. Happy na rin ako.”

But Eyu is not the only one with a unique name in their family as her siblings are named ‘Afy Abzhellou’ and ‘UoieaLouzhel.’

Abcde is against online classes.

With the looming opening of classes, Eyu also weighed in on the proposed online classes by the government.

“Para sa akin talaga, hindi ako sang-ayon sa online class. Kasi kahit na sabihin natin ‘yung ibang student may gadgets at wifi, paano ‘yung iba na wala?,” she said.

“Sasabihin ‘pag gusto may paraan, pero walang paraan para sa ibang mga estudyante na gusto mag-aral pero hindi kaya ng pamilya na ma-afford ‘yung pangangailangan para sa online class.”

Eyu also said she’s in favor of the proposed ‘academic freeze’ since people should focus first on the threat of Covid19 before thinking about their children’s education.

“Agree po ako sa academic freeze. Walang mag-aaral po dapat ang maiwan. Lahat po tayo sabay-sabay na mag-aaral at matututo. Siguro po dapat mas unahin munang problemahin kung paano pabababain ‘yung kaso ng Covid19 bago isipin ‘yung pag-aaral sa ngayon.”

At the moment, Eyu is assisting her mother and uncle’s business to help them in their finances during this health crisis.
