/ 3 December 2024

A TEAM from the University of the Philippines Visayas emerged as regional first runner-up and national third runner-up at the 24th Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition, outperforming 93 schools during the prestigious finance quiz bee finals.

They are 5th-year BS in Accountancy students Kean Miraflor, Keren Kathe Jacomilla, Alyssa Faith Uygen, Alexis Nicole Guillergan, and Airyleen Varquez.

The team was coached by Lourence Delfin Jr., CPA, a faculty member of the Department of Accounting.

The regional eliminations and national finals took place last month across six venues in the Philippines. Of the 98 participating schools in the regional eliminations, 22 advanced to the national finals.

The Western Visayas leg was held at the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos in Bacolod City, with eight schools from the region competing.

Now in its 24th year, the ICFC is regarded as the country’s toughest collegiate-level finance quiz bowl, covering topics such as corporate finance, investments, portfolio management, banking, financial accounting, and business ethics.

The competition is organized by the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines in partnership with JPMorgan Chase & Co., and aims to expose business students to world-class finance education.

Fourteen years ago, UPV College of Management won the national championship in the 12th ICFC and remains the only school outside Metro Manila to win the national finals.
