LAWMAKER PUSHES FOR COMPREHENSIVE BASIC EDUCATION GOVERNANCE

/ 29 October 2024

1PACMAN Party-list Rep. Michael Romero has filed a measure aiming to establish comprehensive basic education governance, promoting authority and accountability.

In House Bill 10584, Romero stated that the State should support basic education governance through appropriate technology, research, and adequate financial support.

“The education system’s mandate has been refocused to basic education governance, covering elementary, secondary, and non-formal education, including culture and sports,” Romero noted in his explanatory note.

Under this program, the State would develop productive and responsible citizens equipped with essential competencies, skills, and values for life-long learning and employment.

The measure aims to respect and allow the freedom of education to thrive.

Additionally, the Department of Education would be responsible for designing and implementing the comprehensive basic education governance program.
