SOLON PUSHES FOR VOTER’S EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS
ANG Probinsyano Party-list Rep. Alfred delos Santos is advocating for the integration of Voter’s Education into the Junior and Senior High School curricula in both public and private schools.
Through his proposed Voter’s Education Act (House Bill 10676), Delos Santos emphasized the significant impact that youth voters have on elections but noted that most young voters rely on informal information from social media and their immediate communities.
“The absence of institutionalized voter education leaves youth voters ill-prepared for elections,” Delos Santos remarked.
To strengthen democracy, he said, voters must understand their right to suffrage and the importance of their participation in political processes.
“As members of a democratic and republican nation, citizens must be aware of their rights as voters, their duty to participate in elections, and their remedies if disenfranchised,” he added.
The measure aims to incorporate non-partisan voter education into high school curricula, train teachers in voter education, and provide educational materials by requiring secondary schools to stock voter education literature in their libraries.
