ADAMSON University relied on Jims Ducusin’s stellar performance to defeat De La Salle Zobel, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 87 boys’ volleyball tournament held at Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday.

Ducusin was instrumental in the win, contributing 16 points through 13 attacks and two blocks, leading the Baby Falcons to their fourth victory in seven matches. Brice Malinao added nine points, while Neil Tobias chipped in seven. James Javinal also played a key role with 13 excellent sets.

The standings show the University of Santo Tomas leading the first round at 7-0, followed by defending champions National University-Nazareth School at 6-1, and University of the East at 5-2. Far Eastern University-Diliman holds a 3-4 record, while DLSZ is at 2-5.

Post-match, Adamson coach Marvin Ramoso expressed concerns about the team’s errors, particularly in service and reception. “We become complacent when we’re ahead, so that’s what we need to work on before entering the second round,” he noted.

Mario Roxas contributed 12 points for the Junior Green Spikers, who are currently in sixth place.

In another match, Ateneo de Manila University broke a six-game losing streak, defeating the University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-18, 25-20, 26-28, 25-17, to finish the day with a 1-6 overall record. Ethan Rivera and Ken Nicolas led the Blue Eagles with 15 points each.

Ateneo coach Babes Castillo praised his team’s resilience, stating, “I’m very happy for the team because they worked hard for this. Most of them, like Ranidel De Ocampo, are playing for the first time. There are many first-time players, so they faced struggles, but I’m glad they overcame those situations.”

James Gamon scored 11 points for the Junior Fighting Maroons, who are still searching for their first win of the season.
