EASTERN VISAYAS STATE U STARTS CRAB FARMING EXPERIMENT

/ 6 July 2021

FACULTY members of the Eastern Visayas State University purchased juvenile mud crabs for an experimental crab farming initiative seen to benefit both the fisheries department of the university and the students who are taking their internships.

The university said the crabs will greatly help students as they do on the job training in their field of specialization.

The crab project is the initiative of professors Romil T. Dandan, Ryan Aguilos and Mark Tiston of the EVSU-Carigara Campus.

If the experimental farming succeeds, the mud crabs — also known as mangrove crabs or Scylla serrata crabs — will boost the school’s fisheries department.

Dandad urged the school administrators and other members of the faculty to support the project.
