THE DEPARTMENT of Education has issued notices of termination to 149 senior high school teachers in Zamboanga City.

The teachers were given provisional posts when they were hired in 2016 and 2017, according to Dr. Rosalio Conturno Jr., supervisor for school governance and operations chief of the City Schools Division.

“These senior high school teachers were given five years to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers. If they failed or did not take the exam, then they will be replaced if there are applicants who are LET passers,” Conturno said.

“They were hired even though they were not LET passers since the DepEd needs teachers for senior high school when the K-12 curriculum was implemented,” he added.

Conturno, however, said that the teachers will be rehired if there are no qualified teachers to replace them.
