PIPAY, JOYCE, YANI AND HOW COMEDY AT HOME THRIVES EVEN DURING QUARANTINE

Now, more than ever, you don’t need to have a flashy ring light, high resolution camera, or a robust, production-level mic to make good quality videos. Just sheer wits and humor and good social consciousness and you’re good to go!

/ 15 September 2020

We need some good laughs! These walls have been our everyday background since the lockdown happened and it’s been definitely affecting us since. But for some people, there’s a silver lining in it that inspires their creativity and humor to new heights.

Fresh, true, relatablethese three factors are what makes today’s viral contents. It doesn’t try too hard nor uses tricks just to garner attention, and instead uses everyday Filipino stereotypes to hook us in. What’s the secret formula? Perhaps, there’s none and they’re just practically showing us a side of their personality that’s highly contagious. The numbers don’t lie and the “virality” only shows us that it doesn’t matter wherever you are, that even at home, you can entertain the social media community.

Now let’s look at some of these comedians that are feeding us our good dose of comedy with simple skits that gets us by surprise.

Pipay Kipay

You’ve probably already seen her because she’s been blowing up recently. From re-enacting a mother and daughter on her skits, Pipay has been very successful in making people stan her for her admirable creativity that takes us into her story. Featuring her dried-up wig and her background set in a typical less-fortunate home, she doesn’t try to be over-the-top nor over-gimmick. She just remains sincere to her comedy act and that’s the charm that has drawn her so much attention that garnered her 33.4K followers on Twitter and a million views on some of her videos.

Her stories are so simple, wisely crafted, and at times, we can catch some political hints that will just make you burst into laughter. Who doesn’t stan a queen with political stance and uses her influence to open up a discussion on social issues? She also became a guest on Stand For Truth at GMA together with fellow social media celebrities Macoy Dubs and Davao Conyo.

She’s also attentive and receptive of her followers’ concerns so she addresses edits or thoughts when needed. There’s just something about that reminds of fellow viral queens such as Ms. Everything and Davao Conyo. Still, she’s a distinct personality that’s worth checking out if you ever needed some good vibes.

Joyce Glorioso

There’s no putting into words her humor but Joyce Glorioso’s is an inexplicable charm that stems from her eeriness and weirdness that has ultimately gained her a massive following.

Featuring her kitchen background and her staple banana props, Joyce has been best known for her dance videos that are just hilarious despite the pokerface and lack of energy that she exudes. She’s done stereotype Christmas Party performances, pandanggo sa ilaw dance, and more.

But perhaps it’s this simplicity that just pulls us in with her and leaves us dazed as she performs upbeat songs. She even caught the attention of Cardi B for her performance of her song WAP, and the internet went wild with her odd rendition of the dance challenge.

She defies the odds with low energy performances with high energy reception from her audience. So you see, doesn’t matter where you are, Joyce pulled it off with even less effort on higher stakes.

Yani Villarosa

Yani has been seasoned since 2017 but still continues to make rounds in our Twitter feeds because of her hilarity that just doesn’t fail to tickle people’s fancy.

Her videos are mostly shot in her room or their living room, but she takes us in with her creativity and wit in creating situations. Most of her skits exude young energy that channels pop culture, student life, classroom dilemmas, and even with her crushes. It’s just charming to see her blew up from her random videos that has now made her a social media personality and content creator.

But now more than ever, she’s become more vocal using her influence to support causes such as becoming a guest at We The Youth Vote community that encourages the youth to exercise their right to vote.
