Multi-awarded young Filipino band Ben&Ben charts the complicated dynamics of human connection in the music video of new track, “Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin.”

The song, representative of the band’s signature musical styling, portrays a realistic depiction of a family on the verge of collapse, with a narrative that bravely hits home with each member learning how to listen to one another, and speak their minds. The track also examines the flawed but beautiful relationships that we nurture within the family, and the decisions we make when faced by extraordinary circumstances.

Helmed by “Pagtingin” music video director Jorel Lising, the intimate piece features ensemble acting performances of several known television and film actors from Agot Isidro, Bart Guingona, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Kelvin Miranda.

Lising’s compelling take on Ben&Ben’s massive hit has earned praises from various publications in the country. Renuel Fallore of MYX shares that the “cinematic music video couldn’t have come at a better time,” and reflects on its importance in today’s socio-political landscape. On the other hand, Bandwagon Asia, took notice of the song’s evocative lyrics, which tells “people that COVID-19 remains to be the common enemy in this difficult time,” and therefore needs critical attention and vigilance.

In many ways, the track evokes a call for everyone, in and outside the family, to lend an hear to one another. That no one voice should be louder than another. And that, in the face of this growing pandemic, listening to one another breeds to understanding and this leads us to a better future–pandemic or not.

Four days upon its release, the “Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin” music video has found itself trending on YouTube with more than 300,000 views. As of this writing, the song and its video has officially amassed a total over 950,000 views and counting. On Spotify alone, Ben&Ben’s latest single has reached more than a million streams in its second week, making it one of the biggest releases of July.

“Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin” is now out on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music.
