UST TIGERS FENDS OFF UE WARRIORS TO END THREE-GAME LOSING SKID

University of Santo Tomas (UST) finally snapped its three-game skid at the expense of the University of the East (UE), 72-61, on Tuesday in the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sherwin Concepcion paced the UST Growling Tigers with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Dave Ando proved his worth, finishing 16 points and 12 rebounds as UST improved to a 3-5 record.

Down by 11-point in the first half, Ando provided the needed spark in the third period which enabled the Growling Tigers to erase an early 10-point deficit and lead by three points, 54-51, heading into the last frame.

The Red Warriors tried to pull off a late comeback but Joshua Fontanilla, Nic Cabanero, Paul Manalang, and Concepcion conspired and delivered the finishing touches for UST.

Cabanero continued his solid debut season with 11 points, three boards, two assists, a steal, and a block while Manalang and Fontanilla added nine points and seven points, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Kyle Paranada led the Red Warriors with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from distance, while Harvey Pagsanjan racked on a 3-of-14 from deep for his 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss that succumbed UE to a 0-8 record.
