With 228-0 votes, lawmakers approved House Bill 10504 or an act strengthening local sports programs to develop young athletes on third reading.
Siquijor Rep. Jake Vincent Villa filed the said bill seeking to allocate funds for the upgrade of sports facilities and provide financial assistance in the form of sports vouchers.
The bill mandates for the provision of annual sports vouchers to lessen the cost of participation in a sports club, recreation club, or sports organization which are accredited by the Philippine Sports Commission.
Based on the bill, a sum of P500,000 will be allocated for the upgrade of local sports facilities and P50,000 for their programs.
Young athletes will also be given P3,000 to help them for their registration and training fees.
Currently, the constitution promotes physical education and encourages sports programs to develop a healthy and alert citizenry.
