FRAN YU NABS 11 POINTS AS LETRAN BEATS EAC
Fran Yu rekindled the light for the Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL) as the Knights defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 83-62, in the NCAA Season 97 seniors basketball tournament.
The Letran Knights were able to easily maneuver the game as Brent Paraiso and Kurt Reyson both marked 15 points to end the first half with a 19 points lead and maintained the same in the third frame.
But the defending champions became complacent in the fourth quarter as the Generals were able to cut the deficit to six points with over three minutes left in the shot clock, thanks to the triple of Marvin Taywan followed by the shot of Nat Consejo who bolstered a total of 13 points.
Little did the Generals know that it would be their last point as the Letran dropped the 15-0 run until the end as Yu delivered three triples.
“Our opponents are having a scoring run against us. We need to step up, especially us guards, to control the game. I’m just lucky that my shots went in,” Yu said in the post-game interview.
“Coach reminded us to keep our heads strong since in our past games, we are always breaking down in the fourth quarter,” he added.
Yu was the Finals Most Valuable Player back in 2019 and coach Bonnie Tan affirmed that the last two games of Letran were the best plays of Yu so far since Season 97 started.
“Ewan ko lang kung medyo affected siya dahil sa mga bago sa first few games namin, pero last two games, mas focused siya sa games. Siguro may gusto siyang ipakita sa mga tao,” he said.
Letran successfully claimed the 6-0 card at par with San Beda University whom they faced in the Finals last NCAA Season 95.
