CSB TRASHES LYCEUM TO GET 2-0 LEAD

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (CSB) waltzed to another straight-set victory after topping Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), 25-21, 25-8, 25-13, in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament, at the Paco Arena.

The Lady Blazers barely lost and kept their supremacy throughout the match against lady pirates to clinch a shared top slot, with both CSB and Arellano University flashing a 2-0 card and Lyceum sliding to an equal 1-1 card.

Despite a 20-19 lead, the Lady Blazers were unable to get their momentum initially but later even got things rolling at the beginning of the game with Gayle Pascual blending move and CSB went one set ahead, 25-21.

St. Benilde played efficiently from that point on and blasted down Lyceum in the offensive line.

Cristy Ondangan, Pascual, and Francis Mycah Go led CSB to a 22-6 halftime lead over Lyceum, which they promptly put away. Corrine Apostol delivered the final blow, 25-8, as CSB showed off its depth.

Lady Blazer’s Go and Pascual both had 10 points, while Jade Gentapa scored 11 points to lead the way.

With Coach Jerry Yee back in the fold after coaching Thailand’s national Under-17 team, the Lady Blazers were more inspired to dominate the Lady Pirates.

“Feels good to get a head start,” said Yee, who was unable to witness his team’s season-opening victory over San Beda on Saturday, 25-10, 25-13, 25-15. “In NCAA, it will be a single-round robin so you get to play teams just once.”

“We just want to win as many games as we can and possibly gain some incentives later or keep team morale high,” he said.

Lyceum’s sluggish attack was exposed by the Lady Blazers, who racked up 47 kills to the Lady Pirates’ 24. They also scored 20 points off the Lady Pirates’ blunders.
