ARELLANO TROUNCES LYCEUM TO GRAB SOLO SECOND

Arellano University (AU) claimed the second solo spot after trouncing Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in four sets, 27-29, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 97 women's volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena on Tuesday.

The four-peat-seeking Lady Chiefs recovered from a tough first set loss and won the second set after two consecutive errors off a service and Johna Dolorito’s outside attack of Lyceum, gave the set point to Arellano, 25-20.

Arellano continued to dominate in the third frame as the team took advantage of an 18-14 lead, capped a 6-0 run, and widened the gap to 10 points following Tina Abay’s back quick and KC Adante found a hole in Lyceum’s defense floor.

Abay closed out the third frame off the blockers from Lyceum, as the team never looked back in the fourth and last frame with veteran Cess Bello going for a kill to claim a 22-17 lead.

Lyceum’s attack error placed Arellano on match point, 24-17, before Nicole Sasuman completed the game with a kill off a combo play of double-quick with Donato.

Bello paced Arellano with 15 points and 15 digs, Abay had 16 points while Sasuman and Donato chipped in 10 points each, and Kristine Adante tossed 18 excellent sets while Alliah Daisog tallied 13 digs and eight excellent receptions, and helped the Lady Chiefs to climb a 3-1 slate.

Lyceum fell to a 2-2 record as Janeth Tulang paced the team with a game-high 19 points, Dolorito had 11 markers, Venice Puzon distributed tallied 13 excellent sets while Camille Belaro notched 17 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions.

Arellano will attempt to extend its winning streak against Jose Rizal University (JRU) on Saturday, while Lyceum will look to rebound against Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL) on the same day.
