STILL NO THIRDY RAVENA, NEOPHOENIX FALLS TO NAGOYA
San-En NeoPhoenix suffered its 8th loss in a row after falling to SeaHorses Mikawa, 98-73, in the 2021-22 B.League season on Sunday at Toyohashi City Gymnasium.
Thirdy Ravena had to miss out San-En’s two games and was fined 100,000 yen, around 43,800 in Philippine peso, for disciplinary action after damaging a sponsor signboard of the Toyama Grouses last Nov. 14 in the Japan B.League.
With a series of losses and the past month incident, NeoPhoenix still failed to overcome its losing streak.
While Thirdy was serving his two-game suspension, San-En was undermanned with just eight men.
Mikawa took this opportunity and dominated NeoPhoenix with Jarrod Uthoff delivering 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one steal while Nishida Yudai added 13 points.
Hosoya Masashi scored five of his 10 treys leading Mikawa with 17 points, together with six other Seahorses in double figures.
NeoPhoenix, meanwhile, was led by Justin Kno with 19 points and 10 boards, while Shota Tsuyama had 18 points off the bench.
San-En dropped to 3-13 in the season and will try to recover, now with Ravena in the fold next weekend, when they face the defending champion Chiba Jets at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Matthew Aquino played just three minutes and was scoreless for the Shinshu Brave Warrior, and fell short to Utsonomiya Brex, 83-61, at White Ring Arena.
Filipino talents Juan Gomez de Liano and Kemark Carino were both benched by their respective teams Tokyo Z and Aomori.
