PETRO GAZZ ANGELS END SIX-MONTH GRIND WITH EMOTIONAL PVL CROWN
AFTER six grueling months, the Petro Gazz Angels finally claimed their long-awaited PVL All-Filipino Conference title—and the tears said it all.
In a dramatic Game 3 finish Saturday (12 Apr 2025) night, Petro Gazz dethroned Creamline with a 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 victory, sealing a hard-earned championship and closing the league’s longest tournament ever.
“I’m very, very proud of this team,” said Brooke Van Sickle, who delivered 21 points and took home tournament MVP honors. “I just can’t believe this happened. Everybody did a fantastic job.”
The emotions peaked as Jonah Sabete scored the final kill, sparking a wave of celebrations and tears from the Angels. Sabete, who pushed through cramps to finish with 16 points, said, “I told myself to fight through it… I told my teammates no matter what happens, I’ll always fight.”
Team captain Remy Palma also broke down after a tearful hug with head coach Koji Tsuzurabara. “We were close to our breaking point,” she shared. “But I told my teammates—‘Let’s fight with heart. We’ve come this far.’”
Earlier, Akari claimed the bronze medal with a sweep of Choco Mucho, 25-15, 26-24, 26-24. Ivy Lacsina, who scored the final point for Akari, also reflected on their tough journey: “With that last point, everything came flooding back.”
In the end, this tournament wasn’t just about the games—it was about the battles off the court, the perseverance, and the heart it took to make it to the very end.
