PBA shortlists bubble locations; cross out plans abroad

Among 20 proposals received by the PBA board of governors for the bubble venue, the list was narrowed down into three following the league's meeting on Friday.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, however, did not reveal which among the proposed locations are being considered.

Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, Lio Villas Resort in El Nido, Palawan, Pontefino Hotel in Batangas City, and Clark, Pampanga are some that made their presentations during their meeting.

Coca-cola Arena in Dubai was crossed out on the list as it will not be feasible due to time constraints with regards to travel as the league is eyeing their resumption of games next month.

“‘Yung Dubai talagang gusto nila. Sinabi ko lang na baka kulang sa oras kasi September na, October ko gusto magpalaro, baka kulangin sa papers,” Marcial said.

Although not being shortlisted, the commissioner has raised the idea of holding the PBA All-Star games in Dubai which they agreed on. “Sabi ko mag-usap na lang kami ng All-Star — oo gusto naman nila All-Star don,” he shared.

The PBA board has to convene again on Thursday to decide not only the location but also what type of bubble system the league will be patterned.

They were to decide whether to choose either the NBA-like pure bubble, hotel-venue-hotel semi bubble, or closed-circuit bubble currently adopted during training sessions where teams travel from their homes to practice and game venues.

Also, they were to discuss the game timetable format but Marcial already hinted with a compact schedule.

According to Marcial, the format he proposed includes five up to seven times a week of playing. “Meron ding doubleheader, may tripleheader, may combination so paguusapan yun,” he added.
