HANOI SEA GAMES APPLIES ‘NO VACCINATION, NO PARTICIPATION’ POLICY
‘No vaccination, no participation’ is set to be a policy for the national athletes and coaches who are vaulting to compete in the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi.
As per the information of Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Bambol Tolentino, the said development was announced during the online meeting of the Games Federation on Tuesday.
As such Tolentino believed that this would benefit everyone saying that “their policy is for the good of everyone.”
However, he noted his concern that most of the athletes from our Southeast Asian counterparts are already vaccinated and that the Philippines is left behind.
But Tolentino, looking forward to answering the dilemma, had sent a letter to the IATF requesting prioritization of the players bound to participate in the HANOI Sea Games.
“But we already wrote the IATF to prioritize the SEA Games-bound delegates. We’re ready to take any vaccine [brand],” he said.
So far, only Tokyo Olympics-bound athletes weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and boxer Eumir Felix Marcial have already been vaccinated.
Nonetheless, Tolentino assured that everyone who will banner the Philippine flag is sure to be vaccinated before flying to Vietnam.
On the other note, the organizers of the SEA Games affirmed that the competition will happen even with the ongoing pandemic.
