GINEBRA DEAFETS MERALCO TO CLAIM PBA GOVERNOR’S CUP TITLE
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel defended the PBA Governor's Cup title as they defeated Meralco Bolts, 103-92, on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Ginebra ended the hopes of Meralco Bolts as the former defeated the latter in game six of their best-of-seven championship series under 20,224 fans.
Ever since 2016, the two powerhouses have been battling for the championship where Ginebra ruled over Meralco in the 2016, 2017, and 2019 titles.
With this year’s PBA cup, San Miguel secured the victory as Justin Brownlee led the team with 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Tenorio delivered game-high 30 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Ginebra and Meralco were in a tight battle in the first half but Brownlee blasted 17 points in the third quarter alone for Gin Kings to take control and further widen the gap as San Miguel made an 11-0 run, followed by Brownlee’s triple, 96-80 with 4:35 ticks left in the last frame.
Scottie Thompson was hailed as the Finals Most Valuable Player after delivering an average of 17.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in the six-game finals series.
Tony Bishop paced Meralco with 21 points and 16 rebounds while Aaron Black delivered 18 markers.
