Obiena notched 5.91 in just one attempt in the Paris tournament which shattered his 5.87 meters record in the Szewinska Memorial Cup in Poland a month ago.

The PH Olympian gave utmost effort evident from him acing the 5.55m, 5.6m-, and 5.73m marks in one attempt each.

However, in his bid in the Paris Diamond League title and against Duplantis, the 25-year-old Obiena ventured for 5.96 and 6.01 but failed to surpass them twice and once respectively.

Obiena had a tough start as he cleared 5.45m on the second attempt, and even though he was on the verge of elimination at 5.81m, he cleared it in his third and final attempt.

His contention led him to soar and paved the way for a breakthrough record after clearing 5.91m in his first try, anew as the silver medalist in Paris.

Also, Obiena surpassed Americans Christopher Nilsen, the silver medalist in Tokyo, and Sam Kendricks, the bronze winner in the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Meanwhile, the Swedish-American pole vaulter, Duplantis, cleared 5.96m and 6.01m on his first try, and failed to set a new record of 6.19, but still clinched the gold medal.
