DELA NOCHE, IRAYA CRASH TO IRAN; END ASIAN U19 BEACH VOLLEY CAMPAIGN
Philippine tandem Jayrack dela Noche and Alexander Iraya exited the 2021 Asian Under-19 Beach Volleyball Championships after bowing out to Iran-2’s Amir Reza Zamani and Armin Kami on Monday at the Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.
The Filipino duo failed to secure a spot in the crossover quarterfinals round succumbing to Iranian foes, 21-12, 21-16.
With the loss, the Philippine team is currently at the bottom of Group A at 0-2, while Iran earned a quarterfinals spot at 1-1.
In the opening salvo, the Iranians quickly stunned the Filipino pair, pulling off an 11-4 lead that put them on a scoring spree to win the set.
Dela Noche and Iraya inserted everything they had in the second set and kept Zamani and Armin Kami within striking distance at 11-14, but the Iranians did not hold back and finished the match in a straight-set victory.
Iraya spearheaded the team Philippines with 13 points while Dela Noche, who chipped in 11 points against the top seed Thailand-1, was only limited to 4 points.
Despite the loss, the Negrense duo vowed to bounce back in their upcoming tournament, the Fourth Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships, a qualifier for the FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball World Championships, scheduled on July 12 in Thailand.
“Babawi po kami soon at gagalingan pa po namin. Gagawin po namin lahat ng makakaya namin soon [sa U-21],” averred Dela Noche.
