INDUSTRY 4.0: THE NEW FACE OF COMMERCE

Driving across the new era of global competitiveness will create a new world of underlying possibilities and opportunities. In the rise of the 21st-century generation, a shadow of evolution is taking up the lead and is at the forefront of human interest. We are once trapped in the glass of obsoleteness, not until technology radiates from the incandescent mind of people. Technology is now the tool of reality that builds large and complex scale networks and allows every individual to be one step higher for innovation. This period of sunrise will be the one to bring us-human to a highly advanced workforce in response to the quest for economic progress and global linkage.

However, the concept of economic abundance and stimulus connections among nations is not new for this was already the mechanism of people dating back to the First Industrial Revolution.   When the First Industrial Revolution took place, the steam engine was developed and society embraced transformations that opened the portal for the trading of goods and services among continents. Since it is human nature to be creative and innovative, people continued to dig deeper to improve the first discoveries until they were able to expand the changes and reached the Second Industrial Revolution that gave birth to telephone, electrical supply, and mass production. This significant metamorphosis of industrialization flows the mainstream of modernization and empowers the Third Industrial Revolution. The emergence of industry 3.0 made a huge leap ahead wherein the advent of computers and automation ruled the industrial scene. Moreover, after the Third Industrial Revolution, another revolution evolved that made a major turning point in history—the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Through the picturesque transmutation of industry, together with the progress of technology, we are now walking in the ladder of industry 4.0 that will pave the way for integrated applications of cloud-based platforms. The term industry 4,0 refers to the Fourth Industrial Revolution that highlights the concept of the digital workforce. The digital workforce is the phase that has been coined to describe the Industrial Internet of Things (IOT) and a variety of robotics in the workplace. Thus, steeping our feet to the new level of industrialization is the new way of collaborating and engaging in productive people and organizations.

In response to the journey towards industrial productivity, the Philippines is now developing inclusive innovation hubs to prepare the workforce and allows them to adapt technological advancements according to the Department of Trade and Industry. The department’s Inclusive Innovation Industrial Strategy (I3S) will link the connection between the industry and the academe. Together with the Department of Education (DepEd), the agency’s K to 12 programs will hasten the capabilities of learners in terms of planning and critical thinking.

Thus, binding the 21st-century skills of students and the extensive planning of the implementing department of the digital workforce—the DOLE this will produce high quality and market-driven research works that will make use of the trends in the labor market. Furthermore, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) pointed out the core strength of Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in giving awareness in career choosing to the young people that will also strengthen their knowledge in industry 4.0 as the backbone of innovation that will make most of the trends in the labor market. The driving capacity of the digital workforce will expand the horizon of technological influences in Philippine tourism, aviation, agriculture, infrastructure, and the economy as a whole.

From being the “Sick man of Asia, the Philippines continues to thrive in progress along with other countries so that we will not be left behind in the midst of crisis and poverty. Hence, we will be able to stand beside them in the zenith of development alongside with the strategic plans of the government; the country’s economic growth became promising. This economic stability has brought aesthetic attitude that the country will be able to adapt the digital tsunami. Using our battle cry, the “Rising Tiger of Asia” we may be able to reach our goals and ambitions in becoming a digital country workforce that is set to create a virtual copy of the real world. Currently, the Philippines can manifest first-hand services of the digital workforce such as online transactions, paying bills, booking flights, and shopping online that became a trend among  Filipinos.

Hence, the voyage for a smart community we can break the barriers of our fears and hesitations as we broaden our perspectives as brilliant humans and adapt changes and improvement with what the world can offer. The industry before that was only a dim light evolved to an extraordinary lightning speed that gives luminescence to every corner of the globe and became the new face of commerce.
